PRE-SURGERY REHABILITATION
Pre-operative rehabilitation is recommended to the patients before planned surgery of the musculoskeletal system. With its help, the recovery process and the postoperative rehabilitation will be much shorter compared to the standard procedures. Conducting the therapy in the same centre where the orthopaedic surgery will be performed gives the patient the opportunity to consult the attending orthopaedic physician, and also provides access to physiotherapists experienced in managing orthopaedic patients.
Through individually tailored therapy, we achieve:
- reduction of pain, joint exudate and limb swelling
- increased mobility of the joint
- reduction of the muscle, fasciae and ligament tension
- restoration of the strength, balance and muscle control
- shorter recovery time after the surgery
- reduction of the risk of intraoperative or postoperative complications
Physiotherapy before the surgery is recommended, among others, before the following procedures:
- arthroplasty of the hip, knee and shoulder joints
- arthroscopy of the hip, knee and shoulder joints
- plastic surgery and reconstruction of ligaments and tendons
- spine procedures
PATIENT REHABILITATION AFTER ORTHOPAEDIC PROCEDURES
Postoperative rehabilitation is another crucial stage of treatment after orthopaedic surgery. The physiotherapy program after the orthopaedic procedures in our Rehabilitation Centre is adjusted to each patient individually. It takes into account the current postoperative phase, age, general condition, concomitant diseases and professional or sports activity of the patient. It complies with the world’s standards of conduct after a given orthopaedic procedure.
We utilise recognised physiotherapeutic methods that are applied by experienced physiotherapists working with orthopaedic patients. The task of the physiotherapy is also education – learning how to avoid undesirable movements, properly perform everyday activities while wearing a stabiliser, and learning how to move correctly on crutches. During the later phases of the rehabilitation, characteristic motor activities from a given professional activity or sports discipline performed by the patient are implemented. The scope of the exercises, their intensity and pace are adjusted individually, based on the appropriate tests and observation of the patient.
Postoperative rehabilitation has the following goals:
- reduction of inflammation symptoms (pain, swelling, exudation)
- regaining the range of motion in the joint
- normalisation of the soft tissue tension (muscles, fascia, ligaments)
- making the postoperative scar more flexible
- reducing muscle atrophy
- recovery of the muscle strength and endurance
- re-education of the limb functionality
- comprehensive improvement and recovery after various surgical procedures of the musculoskeletal system
We use orthopaedic rehabilitation in the treatment of the following diseases:

Orthopaedic rehabilitation programs include:
- specialist medical care – diagnostics and establishing a rehabilitation program
- specialist nursing care
- therapy conducted by a physiotherapist specialised in orthopaedic physiotherapy, including:
- individual exercises (in line with the modern physiotherapeutic methods)
- depending on the needs – general improvement exercises, soft tissue therapy, manual therapy
- exercises with devices (depending on the needs – leg-tensor/rotor/CPM device/stabilometric platform/treadmill with biofeedback)
- in case of operations on the lower limbs: standing upright/learning to walk/gait improvement
- physical therapy treatments (according to indications, tailored to the individual needs)
- educating the patients on how to exercise independently at home, safely perform everyday and recreational activities, and return to sports – if possible; learning how to put on/use the ordered orthopaedic equipment
