DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPAEDICS AND TRAUMATOLOGY OF THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM

In our Department, we provide comprehensive treatment of diseases and injuries of the osteoarticular and muscular systems. We focus in particular on the development of minimally invasive surgical procedures of the shoulder, elbow joint, knee joint, ankle joint (arthroscopy) and the spine.

Our physicians, constantly improving their qualifications through numerous courses and trainings in Poland and abroad, use the best possible methods in the surgical and conservative treatment. They also successfully use innovative medical techniques and the achievements of material bio-engineering, mainly in the reconstruction of bone and articular cartilage defects.

We specialise in the arthroplasty of the joints: hip, knee, shoulder, brachio-radial, and recently also joints of the foot. Thanks to cooperation with leading manufacturers of endoprostheses, we are able to meet the expectations of the most demanding patients, adjusting the prosthesis to the individual anatomical conditions of the patient.

We also offer our patients a full spectrum of spine injury and disorder procedures, as well as in-depth diagnosis and treatment of spine pain syndrome (primary, secondary).

Orthopaedic rehabilitation is a special area in the operation of our hospital. Therefore, after the surgery, we provide patients with the opportunity to take advantage of comprehensive inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, carried out by a qualified team of medical rehabilitation physicians and physiotherapy specialists. We prepare an individual and comprehensive program of treatment and physiotherapy for each patient.

The Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Locomotor System offers 48 beds in comfortable, air-conditioned single, double, triple and 4-person rooms with a bathroom. Additionally, it has two treatment and dressing rooms.

Physicians of the Orthopaedics Department see patients at the trauma and orthopaedic clinic.

As one of the few in Poland, we treat wound healing disorders using vacuum therapy – and as the only facility in Podkarpacie, with the use of an ozone generator (ozone treatment of infusion fluids or blood, pressurised oxygen-ozone closed system tent). We also use advanced techniques to deal with the postoperative pain and swelling – the GameReady system with active compression of the operated site (not reimbursed by the National Health Fund). We have limited the use of a plaster dressing to the necessary minimum in the treatment of fractures, using advanced and proven orthoses and stabilisers in the postoperative healing.

Magnezix bioresorbable implants made of a magnesium alloy – an innovative solution that reduces the risk associated with the surgical treatment – facilitates surgery and is perfectly tolerated by patients of all ages.

Traumatic surgery is often associated with discomfort caused by the need for implant placement. Moreover, repeated surgery to remove the implant is often required. Magnezix are revolutionary biodegradable implants that eliminate all of these inconveniences. Magnezix has the mechanical properties of a metal, but undergoes gradual biodegradation in the body and is completely replaced by the patient’s own bone tissue. It is a unique solution, thanks to which it is not necessary to re-operate to remove the metal.

Applications of Magnezix:

  • intra- and extra-articular fractures
  • pseudoarthroses, arthrodeses and osteotomies
  • avulsive fractures
  • osteochondral fractures
  • surgical treatment of bunions
  • treatment of fractures in children
