Computed tomography (CT) is one of the radiological examinations which uses X-rays. CT facilitates precise evaluation of anatomical structures and detection of potential disorders of the human body in cross section and, with appropriate reconstructions, also in other planes. The main advantage of the CT compared to other conventional radiological examination methods is the possibility of differentiating between the particular fractions of soft tissues. The X-ray tube performs the irradiation around the patient’s body, thanks to which we can obtain a detailed image of the selected layer of the body.
The device in our laboratory is a 64-row, 500-layer model of the GE LightSpeed VCT series tomograph. It allows almost all types of CT imaging to be performed, including heart CT – coronarography CT.
The LightSpeed VCT tomograph with the ASiR software, thanks to the reduction of the radiation dose by 83% (to the level of 0.46 – 0.99 mSv), allows for safe population screening diagnostics of heart disorders.
In our CT Laboratory, routine examinations of the head, neck, chest, abdominal cavity, pelvis, spine and upper and lower extremities are performed, for both bones and joints, as well as specialistic examinations: CT angiography imaging, CT coronary angiography (CT angiography of the coronary arteries of the heart), virtual colonoscopy (examination of the large intestine) and DENTAL CT of the maxillary and mandible bones.
