The first endoscopic surgery in Poland of a cervical fragment of the spine

On 20th of July 2010, for the first time in Poland, in our hospital we performed endoscopic surgery of a cervical fragment of the spine. The procedure comprised the removal of a cervical hernia, which had been compressing on the nerve.

The endoscopic method is minimally invasive, but very precise. The orthopaedists only had to perform two small incisions. Then, using small blades under the control of X-ray imaging, they removed a disc fragment which had been applying pressure to a radicle. The entire procedure was done using a local anaesthetic, the patient being conscious all the time.

Thanks to this method, the patient is able to recuperate and return to normal life quicker than after the traditional style of operation. The rehabilitation and hospitalisation time is shortened considerably.
